Site Superintendent

MAJOR FUNCTION
This person has the lead authority at the project site. II is his/her responsibility to manage each project assignment according to Geo-Con’s corporate philosophy of safe, quality production. While he may delegate tasks to others, all day-to-day activities are his responsibility.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Regional Operations Manager and the Project Manager.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Generally, field operations will be coordinated with the Regional Operations Manager and all other activities are coordinated with the Project Manager.  Specific responsibilities are detailed below:

  • Hires and fires labor – Responsible for labor productivity and the installed cost of the work.
  • Onsite coordination of subcontractors which includes monitoring their progress, productivity, quantities for unit price work, and protect against claims.
  • Contract Administration – Since he is our onsite representative, he must have complete knowledge of the contract and all related documents. If there is ever any doubt, he consults with the Project Manager.
  • Completes all required paperwork on a timely basis – at least once per week.

  • Extra work and claim documentation.
  • Maintain a written project diary which will contain along with other pertinent information, the nature and extent of delays, deviations from the approved plan, and any other job site conditions such as inclement weather, labor shortages, equipment breakdowns or later material deliveries that may serve as the basis for a change order or claim.
  • Day-to-day purchasing activities in accordance with budget restraints and company signature authority.
  • Be fully aware of the project budget and to work within that budget.
  • Submit approved progress and invoice pay quantities to the Project Manager on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of a safe and healthful work environment, OSHA compliance, and incident reports.


ACCOUNTABILITY
“The success to every safety program is management procedures that fix accountability.” Supervisors to be held accountable for:

  • Timely, complete audit responses.
  • Overall compliance with procedures (i.e., 29 CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1926 equipment inspections, et.al.), as noted during audits.
  • Pro-active safety procedures, i.e., training, safety meeting content and documentation, etc.
  • Timeliness and thoroughness of completing incident reports, particularly accident analysis and steps to prevent recurrence.
  • Completion of 200 logs.
  • Incident rates.
  • Compliance with medical surveillance (via use of WorkCare and training protocols).
  • Attitude.
  • Example set for labor force.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE
Educational and experience requirements include: 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience. Minimum of eight years supervisory experience in similar facility construction technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures required. Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise large groups essential.

Secretary (General)

MAJOR FUNCTION
Provide secretarial and administrative support to one (or more) people within specified project or office. Support outside a department may be required with approval of supervisor.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Generally, field operations will be coordinated with the Regional Operations Manager and all other activities are coordinated with the Project Manager.  Specific responsibilities are detailed below:

  • Type variety of documents, many highly confidential. Maintain/set-up sophisticated filing systems, supervisor’s personal files, etc.
  • Answer phones – screen/handle routine and/or noncritical items – pass others on to supervisor.
  • Maintain supervisor’s calendar, schedule meetings, etc.
  • Take and transcribe meeting minutes and other dictation. Photo-copy documents as required.
  • May compile and prepare various reports for supervisor’s use (requires analysis and comparison of data).
  • Insure continuance of office routine in supervisor’s absence. May write reports, letters, memos, etc. for supervisor’s signature.
  • Coordinate and process general administrative work (time sheets, vacation requests, supply requisitions, etc.) for supervisor’s signature.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
  • Process in-coming mail; open, stamp, and sort for priorities. Distribute and/or handle items not requiring supervisor’s attention.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE
Educational and experience requirements include: High school diploma, plus 1-2 years business or secretarial school, or the equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum 2 years secretarial and administrative experience with research responsibilities. Working knowledge of business procedures, letter and report formats, and arithmetic. Ability to type 65-70 WPM accurately and take dictation.

Estimator

MAJOR FUNCTION
Provides Corporate Estimating Support to all districts.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Vice President of Estimation.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Generally, field operations will be coordinated with the Regional Operations Manager and all other activities are coordinated with the Project Manager.  Specific responsibilities are detailed below:

  • Prepare quantity take-offs.
  • Determine initial production rates.
  • Develop initial resource requirements.
  • Solicit material and subcontractor pricing.
  • Establish preliminary project schedules.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE
Educational and experience requirements include: 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical training and/or related experience. 5-8 years estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience (al least 4 years estimating experience) in similar facility construction. Thorough knowledge of company procedure, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required. Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts, plus ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort essential.

Project Manager

MAJOR FUNCTION
The primary responsibility of a Project Manager is to manage each project assigned to him/her according to Odin’s corporate philosophy of safe, quality production and client satisfaction while securing the most favorable economic outcome for Odin. The Project Manager will understand and comply with published Company policy and procedures.

Reports to the respective Regional Manager. The Project Manager will coordinate labor and equipment with the Vice President of Operations for the selection, assignment and utilization of job supervisors, foremen, engineers, health and safety officers, and workers

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Generally, field operations will be coordinated with the Regional Operations Manager and all other activities are coordinated with the Project Manager.  Specific responsibilities are detailed below:

Provide initial client contact to assess scope of work and resources required to successfully complete project.

  • Prepare complete estimate for selected project with detailed review of proposal specifications, drawings, takeoff information, contracting, and the like.
  • Supervise total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, AE representatives, other contractors, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise onsite functions (scheduling, engineering, material control, and may provide day-to-day direction of onsite administrative staff in accounting, purchasing, etc.).
  • Provide technical assistance, i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment, etc., as required. Initiate and maintain extra work estimating and issuance of change orders.
  • Assume responsibility contractual performance of the project.
  • Perform additional assignments per Supervisor’s direction


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE
Education and experience include: 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience. Minimum of eight years construction management, estimating, and/or craft supervision experience in similar facility construction. Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods); craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations; engineering, estimating, schedules and safety required. Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills essential. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented with solid analytical and problem-solving skills and desire to be a team player.

Project Engineer Intern

MAJOR FUNCTION
A general description is provided, but the shadowing experience will be tailored to the current career objectives of the chosen student, as demonstrated in the responses to questions that follow. The Project Intern’s overall function is to provide assistance to the Project Engineer. This includes, but is not limited to: field engineering, QC, submittals, bidding, estimating, costing, purchasing materials and invoicing. The Project Intern will shadow the Project Engineer consulting/coordinating QC procedures and staffing of QC Specialists with the Project Manager.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

  • All behaviors comply with the Odin Construction Health and Safety policy
  • Provides direct support to the Project Engineer
  • Shadows the implementation of site Quality Control program that adheres to Odin’s SOP’s, project specifications, and approved work plans
  • Shadows the development/implementation of training for QC personnel onsite
  • Shadows QC testing on projects
  • Shadows field engineering which may include: surveying, as-builts, reading blue prints, computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word; digitizer; AutoCAD, other programs), scheduling, quantities, take off and calculations
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Modern office methods and computer equipment, including: fax machines, photocopiers, adding machines, digital recorders, and computers using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat
