Congratulations to Aafreen Latheef, Odin Project Engineer, for receiving the American Society of Civil Engineers 2020 Outstanding Younger Civil Engineer Award! Aafreen graduated from University of California, Davis with a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering and a minor in Construction and Engineering Management in 2019. She then joined the Odin team, with her first project being the Tiger Creek Afterbay Dam Low Level Outlet (LLO) Dredging & Inspection.
Not only is Aafreen the Membership Chair for the ASCE Sacramento Section Capital Branch, but she was also the VP of Beautiful Minds Project, a mental health organization at UC Davis. She was recently featured in a multi-page article in the national publication Civil Engineer Magazine, highlighting her academic and professional excellence. Currently, Aafreen is working as a Project Engineer for a USACE project, PL 84-99 Feather River Levee Repairs. Keep up the great work, Aafreen!
Please join us in congratulating Claudia Plascencia, Odin Project Engineer, for receiving the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2020 Outstanding Practitioner Advisor Award! Claudia graduated from University of California, Davis with a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, and is extremely involved with her alma mater. She is a professional mentor for Avenue E, a scholarship program that serves promising and underrepresented groups like women pursuing a career in engineering.
Claudia is also involved with the American Society of Civil Engineers Sacramento Section Capital Branch. Not only is Claudia the Junior Director, but she is also the ASCE Practitioner Advisor between the UC Davis Chapter and the Sacramento Section Capital Branch. Currently, Claudia is working as a Project Engineer for our Marysville Ring Levee Phase 2C project. Keep up the great work, Claudia!
Congratulations Louay M Owaidat, Odin’s President and CEO, for receiving the American Society of Civil Engineers 2020 Outstanding Civil Engineer in the Private Sector Award! Louay has successfully managed over 400 construction projects valued over $1 billion, including Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency’s over $200 million Flood Protection Program. He provides technical expertise to support the design, planning, and execution of Odin’s remediation projects throughout the United States.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Louay is dedicated to the advancement of the civil engineering/construction industry. Louay has hosted college students on Odin jobsites to expose them to the construction industry, as well as presented at colleges and universities to encourage students to pursue a career in the civil engineering and construction industry. He raised over $100,000 in 2020 for the Alfred Golze Scholarship fund, which awards scholarships to deserving civil engineering and construction management students attending CSU Sacramento, CSU Chico, University of the Pacific, and UC Davis. Louay has also supported CSU, Sacramento to establish and build the Concrete Durability Research Center. We are honored to have a determined, philanthropic leader!
